Erin Mison
Erin Mison’s work draws on an evolving and life long desire to understand people. The self-taught artist works predominantly with textiles, using hand operated tufting guns with both natural and synthetic yarn to create ornamental tapestries. Mison’s work explores themes of identity curation, sexuality and socio-cultural anthropology, taking universal, familiar yet private stories and re-telling them in evocative pieces. What began as an introspective analysis of her own seemingly unique and private stories soon shifted towards a focus on illuminating the similarities they had with others. Mison’s work reflects the artist’s desire to connect with the viewer, whether by the tactile nature of her pieces, or the feelings of that come from seeing parts of themselves in her works.
