Briefing on the Development of Tai Wai Campus
Fitout works for the College’s new campus at Tai Wai are progressing according to schedule. The power and data cables are being installed, and much of the room partitioning has been completed. In view of this development, the architect and project manager were invited to the College on February 3, 2023 to present a briefing on the design, layout, and preliminary relocation timetable. The briefing was attended by around 35 academic and administrative staff (see Picture 1). Colleagues were actively asking questions on the campus design and facilities for teaching and student learning (see Pictures 2 and 3). It was noted that sufficient office storage space would be provided for all faculties and a smooth relocation timetable had been drafted to align with the College’s admission schedule. Staff will be provided a laptop computer for use in teaching, with the option of configuring the system to support transcription and translation. Interactive white boards will be fitted with a trackable camera to enable cross-campus online course delivery. Staff members raised concern about the signage on the building and along the passageway. The appropriate arrangement is being discussed with MTR. Security issues, such as access to the lifts from the bottom level, were highlighted and card access was provided as the answer. A staff raised concern for device recharging facilities and it was noted that convenient power outlets would be provided on the wall and under the seats for student use. The briefing was productive, with many constructive requests from staff members for operational improvement.
