Students in the Diploma of Applied Education (DAE) enjoyed a series of Life Wide Learning (LWL) activities in Semester A including a Wine Tasting Workshop, Coffee Roasting Workshop and Disney’s Foundations for Career Success.
In November 2024, 18 DAE students accompanied by Mr. Paul YEE of the College went to the Hong Kong Management Association to attend a Wine Tasting Workshop which aimed to enhance students’ professional knowledge and skills in wine tasting. Students also gained a deeper understanding of the nuances of wine and learned how it is made. It was exciting for students to have the chance to appreciate different types of red wine.
Apart from wine, 26 students had a dip of coffee in December 2024. In Lov Lov Coffee at Shek Mun, students learned the basic knowledge and skills of coffee roasting by observing the whole process of coffee roasting and how to do the Latte Art. All the students were able to experience how to make a cup of coffee with Latte Art themselves under guidance. The aroma of coffee left its imprint on the memory of such a wonderful learning experience.
In January 2025, 27 DAE students, together with Dr Irene CHIN and Dr Louisa YUEN, went to Disneyland to take part in an activity named Disney’s Foundations for Career Success. Through experiential learning, this programme provides students with an understanding of Disney's corporate culture and work environment. Disney staff members introduced the importance of positive work attitude, and constant learning of different skills, which are in line with the programme objectives of DAE. The activity ended with their screaming thrills at Space Mountain. Most students then continued their day at Disneyland.
DAE students are required to participate in at least 10 hours of Life Wide Learning (LWL) Activities in their study, which may include career-related learning, physical and aesthetic development, or moral and civic education. The activities they joined in Semester A belonged to the category of career-related learning.
