To enrich students’ exposure to new technology, Dr. Charlie Choi delivered a seminar on quantum computing at Po Chiu Catholic Secondary School on 14 April, 2023, Friday. There were 17 participants from the science stream. The purpose of this seminar was to introduce students to the fascinating world of quantum computing. The seminar covered the basics of quantum computing, including its calculation and features, and provided students with a comprehensive understanding of the subject.
During the seminar, students learnt about the basic quantum mechanism and witnessed a demonstration using a simulated platform. One of the most intriguing topics that students were eager to learn about is why quantum computing performs faster than traditional computing methods. This topic was explored in depth during the seminar, with ample opportunities for students to ask questions and gain a deeper understanding.
In addition to learning about the mechanics of quantum computing, students also explored its practical applications in daily life. This included areas such as AI, medicine, weather forecasting, cryptography, and more. By the end of the seminar, students had a solid foundation in this exciting field and were ready to further explore the subject on their own.
Overall, this seminar is an excellent opportunity for secondary school students to gain a comprehensive understanding of quantum computing and its potential impact on our lives. It is also a chance for them to broaden their horizons and explore a field that is rapidly evolving and changing the world as we know it. The College’s objective is to introduce emerging technology to the young generation and to help develop the community.
