Guiding Star Scholarship Award is sponsored by Drs Richard Charles and Esther Yewpick Lee Charitable Foundation. The scholarship aims to encourage Social Work students to be perseverant in facing adversities, cultivate their aspirations for serving the community and their commitment to the social work profession. The scholarship is also offered to alleviate the financial burdens of the students and to support them in pursuing continuing education and future development. There were 20 scholarships in the 2021/22 academic year. The awardees will participate in the capacity building programme.
Seven students from the College, including three full-time first-year students and four full-time second-year students, received the scholarships among six local institutions. The other institutions included HKCC, HKCT, HKIVE, Caritas, and CUSCS. This is evidence of the students' dedication, high academic standards, and their willingness to pursue ongoing development with a passion to serve the community and strong enthusiasm in helping the disadvantaged. "The award is to acknowledge the high standard of academic performance and willingness to pursue ongoing development in our students who have learned from the College’s rigorous curriculum and effective practicum," said Mr. Wong Yun Tat, the programme leader. The programme leader (on the right) and prize awardees are shown in pictures below expressing their joy.
