A seminar on AI and Smart City was held at UOW College Hong Kong’s Kowloon City Campus in early April 2023 for a group of 21 students from the Tung Wah Group of Hospitals Lee Ching Dea Memorial College. The seminar, conducted by an expert in the field of AI and Smart City, aimed at introducing the latest developments in AI and how it can be used in smart cities.
The Hong Kong Government announced a smart city strategy in 2017, with 76 activities divided into six smart areas: "Smart Mobility," "Smart Living," "Smart Environment," "Smart People," "Smart Government," and "Smart Economy." The success of this strategy will be built on innovation, IoT, signal collection, and AI. AI is gaining popularity in Hong Kong, with a focus on innovation and technology and is being used in several fields, including education, commerce, and government.
At the seminar, the students gained a broad view of how these technologies are shaping our world and helping it evolve. The seminar also offered a chance for students to network and collaborate with one another. In the discussion, they shared ideas about initiatives that may engage the use of AI and smart city principles in the future. It was an enriching learning experience for the students, who left with a better understanding of the possibilities of these technologies.
