The Celebration of Australia Day
As part of the University of Wollongong, UOW College Hong Kong maintains significant ties with Australia in areas like teaching and learning, culture, and management. The College is a member of the Australian Chamber of Commerce Hong Kong and Macau (AustCham). AustCham is a non-profit organisation that aims to foster and provide a forum for business links between Hong Kong and Australia. On 3 February 2023, AustCham hosted an in-person lunch at Island Shangri La to celebrate the Australia Day and invited the College to attend. The theme of this event was called "My Hong Kong-Australia Story" and the organiser invited notable local business executives to share their work experience and lifestyle in Hong Kong, as well as their relationship with their home country in Australia.
This is a unique opportunity for the senior management, including our Chair of the Board of Governors, Mr. Nicholas Brooke, Acting President, Vice-President, Deans, and Associates, to understand the diverse and unique influences and impacts that Australians have in Hong Kong, as well as to celebrate the significance of the Australia-Hong Kong relationship (see picture 1). Taking this opportunity, College members had a casual conversation with the Chair to better understand his leadership style and team expectations. Topics such as Tai Wai campus amenities, branding and marketing strategy, direction of curriculum development, and management efficiency were discussed. The event was rewarding, providing suggestions and understandings useful to the operation of the College.
